The process for IIM Admission 2024 has commenced, following the release of IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode shortlists for PI round 2024. After the release of CAT 2023 result on December 21, 2023, all the IIMs are releasing the shortlists for PI round for MBA admission 2024 one by one. It is expected that more than 50,000 candidates will receive interview call from IIMs. IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Indore, IIM Lucknow, and several others have disclosed their admission criteria and selection process for 2024. IIM Admission 2024: Poses Tough Competition
A record number of 3.30 lakh candidates had applied for IIM Admission 2024 and 2.88 lakh candidates had appeared in CAT exam on November 26, 2023. The 30% increase in number of CAT exam takers going up by 66000, poses a tough competition for admission to 10,000 MBA seats in IIMs.

CAT Registration & Application
This is the first step for IIM Admission. CAT 2023 is the mandatory exam for IIM Admission 2024. If you have not appeared in CAT 2023 you will not be considered by any of the 21 IIMs for admission 2024. The next stage is Preliminary screening by IIMs based on CAT cut offs:

3. IIMs CAT Cut Off : Preliminary Screening of Candidates
   All the IIMs announce their minimum CAT score overall and sectional cut off for admission and before finally shortlisting the candidates, they consider minimum qualifying CAT cut offs as per their admission policy. Unless a candidate has scored above these cut off score, he/she will not be considered for further rounds of IIMs Admission. But remember, actual CAT cut off may go much higher than the qualifying cut off percentile in CAT. Check below:

4. IIM Shortlisting Criteria for PI-WAT
   Out of the 21 IIMs, 11 IIMs will release their individual shortlists while 10 CAP participating IIMs will release common shortlist for PI round which is being conducted by IIM Kashipur for IIM Admission 2024. IIM shortlist is based on weightage awarded to CAT exam score and other parameters like Academics, Diversity, Work Experience among others. Below is the list of IIMs with their shortlist criteria

5. IIM Final Admission: GD- PI-WAT Round
   After getting shortlisted for next round of IIM Admission 2024, you need to get ready for GD-PI-WAT conducted by IIMs from January to April. In the Final admission round, IIMs aware higher weightage to Personal Interview and Writing Ability Test than to CAT score. The key weightages awarded to various parameters by IIMs in final admission based on which final merit list is generated are as below:

5.1 IIM Admission: Generation of Merit List
IIM final admission result is declared in the months of April/May on the basis of above parameters. As per the past trends, IIMs may offer admission at lower CAT exam score to the candidates who have excelled in various parts of life like working in social sector, villages; have diverse profile like painting, graphology, national level players, writers, scientists among others. 

5.2 IIM Final Admission Offer       
IIMs release admission offer depending upon the Seats, and also release the wait lists of candidates who are given admission offer in case some candidate do not turn up for admission or do not pay admission fee in time.

6. IIMs Admission Eligibility
   For IIM Admission, CAT is the mandatory entrance exam. IIMs admission eligibility criteria require minimum 50% marks in graduation in any discipline. You first need to apply and appear in CAT Exam. The CAT conducting IIM releases the CAT exam notification in July/August and the registration and application process for IIM-Common Admission Test (CAT) starts online in the first week of August every year. You have to apply for IIM admission test – CAT from August to September when the application process remains open. Please note if you do not apply for CAT, no IIM will consider you for next round of admission process.  

7. New IIMs Admission: Through Common Admission Process (CAP)
   While older IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Indore conduct their admission process individually and award weightage to Academics, Diversity, work experience at the shortlisting stage, 10 new IIMs admission process awards weightage to these parameters in final admission round. All these 10 new IIMs including IIM Kashipur, Raipur, Ranchi, Trichy, Udaipur, Nagpur, Bodhgaya, Jammu, Sirmaur, Sambalpur have common shortlisting criteria followed by Common Admission Process (CAP) comprising PI-WAT. It is only after the CAP that each of these new IIMs generate individual merit list based on its own parameters and weightages to make final admission offer. 8. IIMs’ Fee
   There has been a sharp increase in IIMs fee during last few years. Now the Baby IIMs like IIM Nagpur, Visakhapatnam among others charge MBA fee between 14 to 17 lakhs, second generation IIMs like IIM Udaipur, Rohtak, Tiruchirappalli among others have a fee structure between 16 to 19 lakhs and top IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta have a fee structure of 24 to 25 lakhs. Read IIMs Fee in Detail
